JARA Episode 19 - The DEADWOOD review

The DEADWOOD

Brief on The Deadwood

The Deadwood is a compelling docudrama on the plight of the elderly. Executive Producer Enuma Chigbo says it was born out of a newspaper article that talked about the tales of woe of pensioners written by her father Dr Gilbert Chigbo, which she helped publish in July 2010 in the Vanguard Newspapers, and the stories he told her about two disabled elderly women.
This unique docudrama stars Gilbert Chigbo as the narrator as well as Grace Ezi-Ashi, who incidentally is the mother of the wife of the Governor of Cross River State, Obioma Liyel-Imoke.
Ever since its completion in 2012, it has witnessed remarkable growth; from being on Afrinolly’s top 10, to the Cross River State Merit Awards, being nominated in two categories at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice awards (AMVCA) and winning in the Best Documentary Category.
“Though it has proven to be an award winning production, we cannot ignore the fundamental message there, which is to be sensitive to the plight of the elderly as we will all grow old someday,” says Enuma.
The Deadwood is produced by Grace Edwin- Okon and directed by Stanlee Ohikhuare.
